Libraries draw people in for countless reasons—whether it’s books, digital resources, career assistance, or creative programming. As vital pillars of thriving communities, libraries inspire learning, foster connections, and provide invaluable services for all.
At the Chester County Library System’s annual Legislative Breakfast on Friday, April 4, 2025, Chester County Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe presented a formal proclamation to Joseph Sherwood, Executive Director of the Chester County Library System, officially recognizing April 6–12, 2025, as National Library Week in Chester County. In addition to the County’s proclamation, numerous local townships, boroughs, and municipalities throughout Chester County have also issued official recognitions of National Library Week. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our elected officials and local governments as we celebrate the vital role libraries play in our communities!
Discover What Draws You to the Library
The 67th annual National Library Week theme, “Drawn to the Library,” celebrates libraries as dynamic spaces for exploration, creativity, and personal growth. Whether you’re a lifelong library visitor or stepping inside for the first time in years, now is the perfect opportunity to discover the many resources available across Chester County’s 18 library locations.
From free Wi-Fi and digital collections to career workshops, makerspaces, and STEAM programs for children and teens, Chester County libraries ensure that everyone—regardless of age or background—has access to enriching opportunities that educate, inspire, and connect.
“Our libraries are constantly evaluating and adapting to meet community needs,” says Joe Sherwood, Executive Director of Chester County Library System. “We listen to our patrons through annual surveys, ensuring our services—whether for job seekers, business owners, families, or retirees—remain relevant and impactful. Libraries play a pivotal role in fostering education, career growth, social interaction, and lifelong learning.”
Libraries Build Communities
Libraries serve as hubs for lifelong learning and engagement, offering programs and services that empower individuals to explore new ideas and opportunities.
Michael Skay, Board President for the Chester County Library System, emphasizes the importance of libraries in today’s world: “Libraries are more than just books. They are dynamic spaces that shape lives, foster connections, and provide opportunities for all. We can all celebrate a simple yet powerful truth: We All Need Libraries!”
