In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, the Henrietta Hankin Branch Library invites you to join us on Tuesday, November 17th, at 6:00 pm for a presentation by Director of Collections & Curator of the Chester County History Center, Ellen Endslow, on the earliest encounters between the Lenape and Colonists in our area. Alliances and negotiations in the 1600s formed relationships between the indigenous Lenape and the Europeans who colonized what is now eastern Pennsylvania. This presentation examines how the mutual respect for self-determination, shared land use, and freedom shifted as colonial leadership changed and the number of settlers increased in the early 1700s. It also looks at some of the decisions and events that led to the removal of indigenous people from their homeland in Pennsylvania.
Ellen has been the Director of Collections/Curator at Chester County History Center for more than 25 years. She primarily manages the Museum collection and also oversees the Library and Photo Archives. She appreciates ongoing opportunities to learn directly from the Lenape, scholars, and museum colleagues about these people and events. We hope you can join us for this enlightening event!
