In-Person: Cookbook Club: "Chinese Heritage Cooking from My American Home" by Shirley Chung
Keeping with the theme of exploring the world’s cuisine culture by culture, the cookbook chosen for the May Cookbook Club event is “Chinese Heritage Cooking from My American Kitchen” by Shirley Chung. From growing up in Beijing to attending culinary school in California, to making her name in the restaurant world and on Top Chef, today Shirley Chung is dishing out new and dazzlingly delicious takes on Chinese cuisine. These recipes are fresh and inspired, yet approachable for home cooks. The recipes use simple ingredients and techniques, but have the standout flavor and texture you expect from top-notch restaurants. Plus, you’ll find fascinating history and chef’s tips tucked away in the headnotes and instructions that will make you a better cook.
To participate, visit the reference desk at the Chester County Library where you will be given the opportunity to browse “Chinese Heritage Cooking from My American Kitchen” by Shirly Chung. Choose a recipe, receive a photocopy and then make that dish and bring it to the “Cookbook Club” night, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 6:00 PM on the second floor in the Staff Kitchen. Participants will discuss the recipes they have chosen, their experience preparing the dish and any changes made. Dishes will be shared amongst the group for tasting. Participants will be encouraged to share food and culture stories from their own lives.
Please bring plate/ bowel and eating utensils (for tasting) and serving spoon for your dish.
